  re-engineered centreless grinders

Our experience in both mechanically rebuilding and CNC retrofitting centreless grinding machines gives us the flexibility to engineer a solution to suit exact customer requirements. Every machine we re-engineer is built to specification, often incorporating many bespoke features to tailor the machine to the exact process on which it will be used. As a result of this, we have identified the most appropriate machines for use on a variety of processes.

PLUNGE GRINDING MACHINES

Key considerations for plunge grinding on a centreless machine are ballscrew integrity, slide construction and speed of control, all of which affect not only the quality of part produced on a machine, but can have a huge impact on cycle time as well as ease of use and maintenance.

Through using high quality, high precision ballscrews, optional caged bearing conversion on infeed slides and the latest Siemens control equipment with milli-second reaction times, we not only address any potential production problems before they arise, but take the capability of the machine far beyond that of it's specification when first manufactured.

We also have key automation features for plunge grinding machines, including full load/unload packages and blank variance detection systems, both of which further reduce machine cycle time, ensuring each customer is guaranteed maximum return on investment.

THROUGHFEED GRINDING MACHINES

Throughfeed grinding is commonly used for components with a single ground diameter and no protruding features, such as headed sections. It is a very widely adopted process in the manufacture of automotive and bearing components especially, and is favoured for extremely high production rates, outstanding part-to-part dimensional characteristics and the ease of holding tolerance once the machine has been set.

We have developed a range of automation equipment especially designed for throughfeed centreless grinding machines, including infeed rollers and conveyors, bowl feeders and walking-beams to even cater for batch production.

Throughfeed grinding machines are also available with a range of laser gauging packages to autocompensate infeed slide position based on part diameter, as well as to automatically dress the grinding wheel based on readings taken on part surface finish.

BAR GRINDING MACHINES

Centreless grinding of large bars is commonly used for removing stock from rolled bar with great efficiency and speed. The other advantage centreless grinding brings to bar manufacture is the size and dimensionsional precision which can be achieved on cold and hot rolled bars.

Our centreless machines for use on bar grinding are available with fully automated load and unload conveyors, as well as pre and post-grind batch tables to store bars prior to machining and prior to despatch.

These process advantages coupled with the technical advances we have bought to bar grinding machines has made them very popular in a range of production environments, including steel works, the manufacture of ballscrews and precision shafts for use in power generation.
