GROUND BALLSCREWS | These products are being increasingly used in aerospace, automotive and defence applications, as well as more traditional industries such as the manufacture of machine tools, industrial robots and precision assembly equipment.

Centreless grinding offers the flexibility of grinding bar stock for thread grinding once cut to length, as well as for finish grinding bearing journals and tapered locations once the screw has been cut to length and detail turned in. This offers increased accuracy of the finished unit due to the tight bar ground tolerances.

LINEAR ACTUATORS | Centreless grinding is a critical process in the manufacture of a variety of linear actuation systems, including pneumatic and hydraulic cylinder rods and a variety of round pinion racks.

These components are typically of uniform diameter, and can therefore be ground using the throughfeed process, to give superior surface finish and roundness, particularly important on seal diameters on pneumatic and hydraulic applications. This accuracy also helps to ensure the smooth operation of an actuation system, increasing performance and prolonging life.

TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS | Centreless grinding has become an increasingly integral process in the production of geared shafts, with the market being pushed continually by the development of new components for electric motors and engines and demand increasing for alternative energy sources.

Through utilising a plunge grinding centreless process, part cycle times are reduced dramatically when compared with external grinding of multi-diameter shafts. All shaft diameters can be ground at the same time while still maintaining high tolerance diameters and surface finishes, instead of passing over each surface with an external wheel.

PRECISION SHAFTS | Precision shafts are widely used on powertrain applications, where the smooth running of mechanical elements is critical to reduction in friction loss and system longevity where wear can be an issue.

Shafts can be ground using either the throughfeed process for single diameters or the plunge process for shafts with multiple diameters. Each grinding configuration can be offered with a host of options on automation equipment, either bespoke or standard, as well as advanced control options for lights-out production and increased component quality.

SPINDLES | Spindles are used in a wide range of industries including aerospace and automotive, as well as the manufacture of machine tools, industrial robots and automation systems such as production lines. Centreless grinding offers unparalleled roundness and surface finish capabilities, which is paramount when considering journals which locate against bearings or seals, to give optimum anti-vibration performance.

Parallel and tapered faces can be ground simultaneously on a centreless grinding machine using the plunge grind process, which can be further enhanced by the inclusion of automatic load and unload equipment for high volume production.
